We are very excited to announce that The East Africa Character Development Trust (EACDT) is Sporta Group’s charity partner for 2019/20.
The EACDT is dedicated to improving the lives of children in East Africa via an innovative programme that marries cricket and character education. Working with schools in Nairobi, Kenya, the charity aims to instil character strengths deemed essential for development and success. Also, to empower children to express their voices and help them improve their own communities.
Through the breadth of the Sporta Group we hope to help the EACDT in a number of ways. Our aims are:
- to promote the charity through our network of contacts across the sport and via our media division, Sporta Media, and its Facebook platform ‘Cricket District’ which has over 110k followers.
- to secure new ambassadors for EACDT through Sporta Management, our athlete management division.
- to explore opportunity for the schools, clubs and teams that tour with Sporta Tours to connect with the charity and join in fundraising and building awareness.
According to Roger Myall, Director of Sporta Group, “We have a real affinity with the EACDT and everything it is striving for. The privileges we enjoy in the UK, and via cricket and the opportunities it can offer, should not be taken for granted. As a company and team of individuals also rooted in cricket and committed to the development of young sportsmen and women via our work, we look forward to Sporta Group making a positive contribution.”
Simon Prodger, Executive Trustee of EACDT commented, “We are thrilled to have Sporta Group on board with our programme. Sporta Group’s growing business and its contacts will hopefully broaden the awareness of our work within the UK sporting community. EACDT is in its 5th year of delivery, engaging with 4500 underprivileged children in Kenya every week of the year. Through the unique nature of cricket as a sport, we deliver a character education programme that helps develop the core life skills of these incredible young people. This not only helps prepare them for the brutal challenges of life in Nairobi’s slums, but also helps to elevate them from the conditions they were born into and to attain higher personal goals in education and employment.”
