St. John’s School in Leatherhead have ‘memories that, without doubt, will last a lifetime’ from their cricket tour to Sri Lanka with Sporta Tours.
The experience started with messages of support from Nasser Hussain and Joe Root, inspiring the team of 15 to make the most of their time overseas.
Their itinerary included play at international venues such as the P Sara Oval in Colombo, and the boys encountered some tough local opposition on tour. Rigorous pre-tour training was rewarded with five wins from seven matches. These included an impressive win against The Foundation of Goodness, a team previously unbeaten until they met St. John’s.
Alongside training and fixtures, the pupils and staff enjoyed watching an England v Sri Lanka T20 International and immersed themselves in Sri Lankan culture. Time at an orphanage was particularly illuminating. The boys were able to help coach under-privileged children and donated cricket equipment and clothing. A visit to a local family for a traditional Sri Lankan barbecue proved another highlight.
St. John’s cricket tour comprised a full 10-day itinerary by Sporta Tours with time in Negombo, Colombo and Hikkaduwa. We also provided an all-inclusive supporters’ package with private drivers and tour guides.
A fantastic evenings entertainment in Colombo watching England beat Sri Lanka in the T20. Plenty of chanting & support from our boys for MOM @joed1986 – Go well in the test series #eaglesinlanka 🏏🇱🇰 pic.twitter.com/VitjSwu1FY
