Sporta Tours new European ARCH Cricket Tournament for schools launches Easter 2019 at the newly expanded cricket facilities of the Desert Springs Resort in Andalucía, Spain.
The new T20 concept will provide a superb short haul alternative to ARCH in the UAE. Now in its 11th year, ARCH is recognised as the largest international cricket tournament for schools.
Teams will have the opportunity to compete in U13, U15 and U19 categories within the tournament which will take place over three consecutive weeks during Easter 2019. We have partnered with the Desert Springs Resort in Spain to ensure a first-class home. It takes advantage of the Resorts’ newly developed cricket facilities, including a new cricket ground with an 18-wicket square which has been constructed to ECB standards and specifications. A marquee pavilion, sightscreens, scoreboard, sprint strips and associated facilities have also been created.
According to Roger Myall, director of Sporta Tours: “The combination of the excellent new cricket facilities at Desert Springs Resort and our well known and established ARCH concept, plus the convenience of short haul travel, will provide a great pre-season tournament option for schools. It offers an outstanding squad development opportunity with warm-weather training and competitive cricket at an extremely competitive price.
“We only have capacity for five teams in each age category so we are inviting schools to register their interest with us now, well in advance of the tournament in 2019. The intention is to have all places secured by the end of the summer term 2018 to provide each group with access to cost-effective flights through Desert Springs Travel Partner Lycafly.”
The European ARCH
The European ARCH tournaments will offer a 5-day/4-night itinerary with accommodation in the Cricket Residence in the resort.
The Desert Springs Resort in Andalucia, south east Spain, has seen further expansion to the resort’s Cricket Academy which opened in 2013. The new facilities provide a year-round training and competition destination for international squads, academies, schools and clubs, and have been jointly funded by Desert Springs Resort and Matt Root, father of England Test Captain Joe Root.
The ARCH Tournament
ARCH (ARabian CHallenge) was first launched 2006 in the UAE by Sporta Tours (formerly Sport Arabia). Now known as the Abu Dhabi School ARCH, the tournament draws schools from across the UK and overseas for competition annually.
The 2018 Abu Dhabi School ARCH takes place this Easter and preparations for the 2019 tournament are now well underway. You can learn more about the Abu Dhabi School ARCH here.
